Fresh Coast Gaming Batrep – Eldar vs Tau

The only thing I enjoy more than a well narrated batrep is a well narrated batrep with (beautiful) fully painted armies. Beyond that, I can’t tell you how obnoxious I find it to go to a GW store to play and find myself facing a wall of grey.

Onto the Fresh Coast game. The armies are beautifully painted, and it’s great to see an Eldar army pre relaunch. Who knows how they will play once the codex and rules hit.

Forge World – Necron Canoptek Tomb Sentinel

Someone thought it would be a marketable idea to release a third Necron Canoptek.

First there is the Necron Canoptek Spider from GW.

09

Then we have the Necron Canoptek Tomb Stalker

ts13

And now finally the Sentinel.

t-sentgrey1

Okay, so three robot-spider-bugs for the Necrons are now available. Cool. Don’t get me wrong, I actually sort of like this latest release and if I played Necrons I might include one. I just don’t think there needs to be three of these things- it seems like a waste of time by GW and FW. I mean really, Space Wolves don’t even have a legal flyer yet guys and here we have a third Necron Canoptek. Really.

In the ages-old Necron panoplies of war, the Canoptek Tomb Sentinel is all but unique. One of the last war machines designed by the Cryptek master-artificer Toholk the Blinded, at the Silent King’s command it was given over to the Praetorians for wider dissemination across the Necron dynasties before the Great Sleep.

Both guardian and aggressor, the Tomb Sentinel is a heavily modified variant of the insectile Tomb Stalker, which forgoes that device’s hellish close combat ability and instead mounts an Exile cannon, a powerful weapon which blasts objects out of existence, casting them into other dimensional realms beyond the material universe. Phasing through the paltry defences of lesser races like a phantom, the Canoptek Tomb Sentinel can deploy this terrible device into the close confines of an enemy stronghold with devastating effects.

The Canoptek Tomb Sentinel is a detailed multi-part resin kit designed by Will Hayes which offers a wealth of dynamic modelling opportunities, much like the Tomb Stalker. This model is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 31st May.

Please note that this model comes supplied with a standard oval base. Scenic base shown in some images for illustration purposes only.

So if all this doesn’t make you sick, doesn’t give you nightmares. Then perhaps this will… …it sort of looks like a Canoptek, right?

No nightmares yet? Here you go.

Eldar Roundup + Rumors

[youtube src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/Vw24Y7PUDGw”]

So in case you missed it- the Eldar are coming out. Before we get into that though, one question. The new flyers… …how do they land? I assume at some point they have to land. I see no wheels, and with the contour of their bodies.. they would have to have pretty long landing equipment. Anyone? Landing?

Pins of War asks what is your favorite part of the release? I voted Wraithguard.

plasticdudesmen115Transformers? I get it. So one of the most talked about portions this release is going to be the Wraithknight. I am on the fence about it, like many people. So I found this Point-Counterpoint post to be very helpful. Well at least it would have been if I was a logical person and the reasons against the Wraithknight were not just because I think it’s too damn big and I don’t want to carry it around.

CASE AGAINST: via biffster666

“I’m 100% biased towards the Eldar, don’t get me wrong. I’ve been playing since RT and the Eldar since 2nd. I WANT the Suckknight to be awesome, it SHOULD be awesome. Unfortuneately it sucks. If every tournament winner was polled about the Wraithknight asking if they would ever field it, 90% would immediately say no, the other 10% just got lucky.

Broken record time, sorry…

T8 3+/5++ with 6W is getting ground into chuck fast, especially if what people claim about this being the ‘shootiest’ edition of 40k is true. Minimum change required is T10 and make it immune to Fleshbane/Rending/Wraithcannons/Instant Death/etc. and I still hate 5++. Should be T10 2+/4++ immune to Fleshbane/Rending/Wraithcannons/Instant Death/etc. and make it 300pts, make it 350…you get my point.”

CASE FOR: via Sonikgav

T8 is plenty tough enough and when you consider the rest of the army is going to be moving around too, only Anti-Tank is going to threaten it, and if its being fired at the Wraithknight (that only needs to dip its toe into cover to get a free 5+ save thanks to being an MC) then its not firing at your actual tanks. Hell, with transports/Knights/Wraithlords you can make most of your opponents standard infantry weapons (except Tau/Dark Eldar) completely useless until you choose to show them softer targets.

And now finally to the rumor part, because technically the actual rules have still not been released and won’t be until the codex hits stores June 1. BOLS

Well Eldar are up on the GW Advanced Orders page.  Here’s the latest on the miniatures and rules brought to you by Loken at 40K Apocalypse:

The Eldar MiniaturesFirst up, the miniatures.  Wraithknights, Hemlocks, Spiritseer’s OH MY! Go check em out.The Eldar RulesNext up, the rules:From Blood & Kittens:Most of the rules information can be gathered from the Battle Report section of the White Dwarf. Here is what we know.

  • Wraithknight: Can get Suncanons: S6 AP2 Blast Heavy 3. Twin-linked with Laser Lock if Scatter Lasers hit first. Jump Pack, Monstrous Creature, 6 Wounds, T8, (Scattershield) for Invulnerable Save
  • Crimson Hunter (Fighter): Gets 2 Bright Lances and Pulse Laser : “Basically Four Lascannons” Gets a “Fighter Ace upgrade”
  • The Hemlock (Bomber): Gets D-scythes (Str4) and Mindshock (Morale Check) Pod (Bomb)  Distort Rule (D-Weapons) any penetration roll of 6 auto pens regardless of strength.
  • Psychic Powers: Fortune (Re-roll Saves), Quicken (Increased Movement), Guide (re-roll hits), Restrain (Opposite of Quicken) Two sets of powers accessible.
  • Dire Avengers: Battlefocus: run and shoot in the same turn.
  • Avatar: Fearless bubble, Fleet
  • Wraithblades: T6 Forceshield Generator so invulnerable save
  • Wraithlord: is still T8

The focus of the battle report was of course on the new units, especially the Wraithknight it is almost like GW wants us to buy a certain model or something…
Other little tidbits…
