Fateweavers: second incursion
First off, we’ve built this army twice. The first version was sold. The second version is at the studio right now.
What follows is one incarnation of the Fateweavers army. This is an all Tzeentch Daemons of Chaos army. The strength of the army is in the magic. The Heralds can have a power called Master of Sorcery which gives them every spell from a single one of the basic lores. This allows you to tailor your army to any particular threat. There are a zillion dirty tricks to play with this.
Against a heavily armored foe, like Chaos Knights, I like to take the Lore of Metal. It’s a lore not often used. The first spell allows for sniping of heavily armored enemy characters.
Bolt of Change is possibly the best magic missile in the game: 12+ to case, 24″ range and 2d6 S D6+4 hits. In the game on Saturday I got this off with nine S10 shots. Nothing can survive that. The key is to run enormous blocks of Horrors. They are super expensive, but they are the solid engine that runs the army.
One thing I want to experiment with is the Standard of Chaos Glory (all daemons within 12″ are Stubborn). This means that if I make the LD7 (typically) test then nothing happens. Daemons are very resilient. And even if I fail I only lose a few daemons. It’s essentially unbreakability. There is also a banner that reduces all enemy leadership within 12″ by -2. I’d like to try that one out on a leadership poor army that needs to pass tests to charge Fear-causing daemons.
On another note: this is a great army to make if you’re short on cash and long on money. You can scratch-build a lot of the stuff out of eight boxes of Spawn (about $190 USD) and a ton of tyranid parts. That’s the trick, you’ve got to have a friend with a lot of Tyranid extras. It’s very, very labor intensive though. My army has 90+ horrors in it and let me tell you it’s quite a trick to make each one unique but still have a cohesive look.
